GEARUP-PD
GEARUP-PD is a research study investigating how genetic factors and environmental exposures may contribute to Parkinson’s disease in people living in rural and regional Australia.
The project is designed to better understand Parkinson’s disease in communities that are often under-represented in research. By combining clinical information, lived-experience data, and genomic analysis, GEARUP-PD aims to support future work in prevention, earlier diagnosis, and more personalised care.
Why this study matters
People living outside major metropolitan centres may have different environmental, occupational, and healthcare experiences that are not well captured in existing Parkinson’s disease datasets. GEARUP-PD has been developed to help close that gap and build a stronger evidence base for future research.
